Concerning the objective to increase biological diversity in Germany’s cultivated area, Ministy’s discussion paper on a future "Arable Farming Strategy 2035" still falls short. This is the conclusion of the Scientific Advisory Board on Biodiversity and Genetic Resources of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). In its most recent statement, the experts formulated 10 additional recommendations for more biodiversity in arable farming.
According to the Advisory Board, it is essential that the goals are more specific and to consider agricultural production and biological diversity more holistically: efficient and effective agricultural production does not exclude biodiversity, on the contrary: Production and biodiversity should be treated as parts of a mutually beneficial system.

On July 7, 2020, the BMEL started a public participation process for the discussion paper "Arable farming strategy 2035 - Perspectives for productive and diverse crop production" published in December 2019, which uses six guidelines and twelve related fields of action to show options for improving German arable farming.
