The importance of zoos for the conservation of wildlife is well known. On the other hand, the conservation of endangered livestock breeds in zoos is less in the public consciousness. However, the keeping of farm animals in zoos has a long tradition. The information of the public about the diversity of livestock breeds is of particular importance here. The participation of zoos in conservation breeding programmes can also make an important contribution to the conservation of endangered livestock breeds.
